This test is used to confirm the presence of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and to differentiate between Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis (two causes of IBD). Both are diseases of the colon that are marked by ulcers in the colon, irregular bowel habits, and often by blood in the stool. The IBD test can be used to distinguish between IBD and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) that may be caused by spasms.
